This project focused on developing skills for using ‘tinkering’ and ‘hacking’ as design research methods. These research methods are grounded in experimentation with materials, public sharing of insights and inventions, and the discovery of new uses for existing technologies. Our team aimed to make use of a DIY tool for “seeing” or “showing” a digital environment differently. Once we identified, constructed, and used a DIY tool, we then gathered a summary of insights and produced a digital artifact/resource as a means of contributing back to the DIY community we drew from.
Click the screenshot below to check out the results of our research. We created a mashup of an existing process for building a text to speech arduino project with a tangible computing object in the form of a Munny doll. Our website documents our process and provides step by step instructions for anyone interested in recreating what we produced, and perhaps, adding to it.
